Claire Callaghan: The Gospel
I have couples fill out a questionnaire at the beginning of the pre-marital counseling process. One of the questions I ask on the questionnaire is “What is the gospel?” I appreciate the answer my friend/fellow church member Claire Callaghan gave to this question last week. It’s a great definition to ponder on Good Friday.
The unbelievably good news that God, through Jesus, has quenched His wrath (reserved for us, deserved by us) in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and now sees us as blameless and spotless. He transferred Jesus’ righteousness to us and loves us as children and fellow heirs. This highlights not our worthiness, but brings glory to his gracious nature. Now we can enjoy Him forever!
Thanks Justin.
Could you please post your Questionnaire so others could use it?
I can see why you would ask that question, but I’m guessing there’s plenty of people who would think it a wierd one to ask… be great to have you unpack the reasons why this is an important question for marriage preparation.
Wow, Claire’s definition is helpful.
Justin, this is such a great example of the fruit of your ministry. I am thankful for how the Spirit has kept you focused on the importance of the gospel in all areas of everyday life.
That definition is largely the result of 7 years of pastoring from bro Justin Buzzard (albeit from a distance at times). A believer’s definition of the gospel will depend heavily on what their pastor’s definition is! It’s inherited.
